How We Score — Our Deal Verdict Methodology

Every product on IsItGoodDeal receives a Deal Score from 0 to 10. This page explains exactly how we calculate it — no black boxes, no hidden criteria.

The Five Scoring Factors

Our Deal Score is a weighted average of five factors. Each factor is scored independently, then combined using the weights below.

1. Price Value — 30%

Is the price reasonable for what you get? We compare the product's pricing against alternatives in the same category. A product doesn't need to be cheap to score well here — it needs to deliver proportional value for what it charges. We look at per-user costs, plan limitations, and whether the "starting at" price reflects what most people actually pay.

2. User Sentiment — 30%

What do real users say? We aggregate feedback from Reddit, G2, Trustpilot, Capterra, and other review platforms where people share unfiltered opinions. We weight both volume and recency — a product with thousands of recent positive reviews carries more signal than one with a handful of old testimonials. We specifically look for recurring patterns: if dozens of users independently mention the same issue, that's a strong signal.

3. Features vs Alternatives — 20%

Does the product offer competitive features for its price point? We compare feature sets against direct competitors at similar price tiers. A product that charges a premium but offers the same capabilities as a cheaper alternative will score lower here. Conversely, a product that includes standout features unavailable elsewhere at the price point scores higher.

4. Free Tier & Trial — 10%

Can you try before you buy? Products that offer a generous free tier or a meaningful trial period (not a 7-day teaser with limited functionality) score higher. This factor rewards products that let you evaluate them properly before committing money. A free tier that's actually usable for small teams or personal projects scores highest.

5. Pricing Transparency — 10%

Are there hidden fees, aggressive upselling tactics, or confusing tier structures? We penalize products that bury essential features behind expensive upgrades, require contacting sales for pricing, or use dark patterns to push users into higher tiers. Clear, honest pricing pages score well here.

The Verdict Scale

Score Range Verdict What It Means
8.0 – 10.0 Good Deal Worth your money for the right use case. Strong value, satisfied users, fair pricing.
6.0 – 7.9 Fair Reasonable, but alternatives may offer better value. Good for specific needs.
4.0 – 5.9 Wait Consider alternatives or wait for a better offer. Significant drawbacks at the current price.
0 – 3.9 Overpriced Better options exist at lower prices. Hard to justify the cost.

How We Research

For each product verdict, we:

  1. Read user reviews across multiple platforms — Reddit, G2, Trustpilot, Capterra, industry forums, and social media
  2. Analyze the full pricing structure, including hidden costs, upgrade requirements, and lock-in mechanisms
  3. Compare features and pricing against direct competitors in the same category
  4. Score each of the five factors independently, then calculate the weighted Deal Score
  5. Write a detailed verdict with specific pros, cons, and recommendations for who should (and shouldn't) buy

Affiliate Transparency

We may earn affiliate commissions on some products. This never influences our scores — our methodology is applied consistently whether or not we have an affiliate relationship. Products with affiliate partnerships receive the same scrutiny as those without. A low-scoring product stays low regardless of commission potential.
